The Rough Guide to Space Opera: John Scalzi - Blue Tyson

John Scalzi is a science fiction author of half a dozen novels and around double that number of short fiction pieces. Other than feline porcine foodstuff experimentation, he is best known his Old Man's War series, a Heinleinian style series where the elderly are given the choice to go and become space marines and fight aliens rather than peacefully expire on Earth. The catch being that you get put in a new body and the chance of you surviving combat long enough to retire is pretty close to nil. The second book is about the hunt for a supposed traitor and missing secrets and the third about a no-longer in action protagonist and wife (thanks to what they know and cutting a deal) and the trouble that comes their way. Including Charles Stross as a Gameran space-marine turtleman. A couple of his short stories are relevant, and The Sagan Diaries is part of the Old Man's War series.
